What is a public adjuster?

A state-licensed insurance professional who represents YOU — not the insurance company — in a property damage claim. Florida regulates public adjusters under § 626.854.

Three kinds of adjusters

Insurance claims involve three types of adjusters with very different jobs and loyalties:

  • Company adjuster — employed by your insurance company. Their loyalty is to the insurer.
  • Independent adjuster — hired by the insurance company through a third party. Still works for the insurer.
  • Public adjuster — hired by YOU, the policyholder. Represents your interests in the claim. State-licensed and regulated.

What public adjusters do

We document the full scope of your damage, scope the necessary repairs to industry standards, negotiate with your insurance company on the settlement, and ensure the policy is applied correctly to your loss. We're fluent in policy language, building code, claim valuation, and Florida insurance statute.

How public adjusters get paid

In Florida, public adjusters work on contingency — a percentage of additional money recovered for the homeowner. The fee is capped by Florida law: 10% during declared-emergency events, up to 20% otherwise. If we don't recover more than your insurer's existing offer, you don't pay.

When to hire a public adjuster

Common triggers: you've had a property damage event and want representation from day one; your insurer's offer feels low; your claim was denied; you're overwhelmed by the documentation and process; you've discovered additional damage after a previous claim was settled. Free claim review at any stage.

Florida-specific regulation

Florida Statute § 626.854 governs public adjuster conduct, fee caps, contract requirements, and required disclosures. Public adjusters must be state-licensed, bonded, and follow specific procedural rules. Munra adjusters are FAPIA-affiliated (Florida Association of Public Insurance Adjusters) and held to industry-leading standards of practice.
